Spartans Win 2009 WSPY Award for BreakOUT Team  (2/19/2010)
Spartans Win BreakOUT Team of the Year Award

The BreakOUT Team of the Year is awarded to the Semi-Pro franchise that most exceeded expectations. This was a dominant showing by the Spartans, who received 67% of the popular vote and nearly 3 out of every 4 votes overall.

The Spartans led the NEFL in passing and total offense, and were second in scoring to the champion Predators. Following a 1-7 season in 2008, it's hard to argue with the results.

NEFL Re-Alignment = A Powerhouse of a League  (1/13/2010)
We are happy to announce that the Rochester Giants, St Paul Pioneers, and South Metro Dragons will all be joining the NEFL for the 2010 season.

From wisemipro.com:

"Don't Look Now, Something Special is Happening Up North...

Very quietly this past weekend the NEFL announced the arrival of the South Metro Dragons to their 2010 stable, replacing the temporarily-for-now-defunc
t Northwest Wisconsin Wolverines. No offense to the Wolverines, but this was quite an upgrade.

In two years in the NEFL, the NWW's posted 4 total wins. Not terrible compared to some other leagues - as far as perennial cellar dwellers go - but not great. The Dragons, on the other hand, come in with two NPFL Championships in two seasons.

In fact, the NEFL roster now boasts 6 teams (out of 12) that have won championships in respective leagues. Add runners-up, and the total jumps to 8. Of the four remaining teams, 3 have been around for less than three years.

Put simply, no one in the Upper Midwest can even come CLOSE to what the NEFL teams will boast next season: 2 NEFL Championships, 2 WSFL Championships, 7 GPFL Championships, 2 NPFL Championships, 3 MAFL Championships, and one NAFL National Championship. As Adam Sandler might have said once upon a time: not too shabby.

The level of competition from top-to-bottom is going to be far tougher in the NEFL this season than the MSFL, IFL, WSFL or any other area league. Kudos to Al Johnson, President of the NEFL, for the recruitment and hard work that has no doubt gone into the process. It's refreshing to see a league finally begin to capitalize on some prescient leadership. While financial advisors will tell you that past performance does not guarantee future success, we feel supremely confident that the performance on the fields up north this season will be more than satisfying.
